Neuendorf House, Majorca, Spain, on Vacation Rental

This masterpiece of Mediterranean minimalism, from John Pawson & Claudio Silvestrin partnership of 1989-91, remains today one of the most iconic contemporary houses.

Built around an atrium described as an ''empty cube within a cube of massed walls'', this geometrical volumetric synthesis rises almost naturally from its surroundings, declaring its strong presence in the meantime.

Visitors approach the house along a 106m long straight stepped stone path, that leads to a narrow vertical gap that dominates the west elevation and then opens to the atrium. The thick two-storey walls cast shadows to this enclosed open air environment, where the ground floor living areas extend. Otherwise, only few small deep windows at selected positions frame the views to the surroundings.
At the other side (south facade), a long and narrow rectangle that stretches along its axis, forms another iconic element of the villa, its swimming pool, that ends in a waterfall towards the horizon.

For those lucky ones interested, we discovered that rental details and more photos can be found for this vacation house here:
