Hillgate Street Residence, London | Seth Stein Architects

Seth Stein Architects designed a new build house behind a conventional period façade in London's Notting Hill.

Discreet from the outside, the building has a plan that extends 26m in depth with a narrow layout arranged around an internal courtyard and terraces. The interior is contemporary, approached with simplicity and filled with daylight through large glazed walls that face several terraces. A characteristic gold leaf-covered corridor wall further distributes light.

The house keeps a low energy footprint, thanks to an array of green building strategies, incorporating solar heating, photovoltaics, passive air distribution, ground-source heat pump and rainwater harvesting.
