Description from Correia / Ragazzi Arquitectos:

The surroundings to the plot are characterized by medium density, consolidated residential areas, despite being so close to one of the main arteries of the city of Porto , Boavista Avenue.
The house, with three fronts, intends to establish or re-establish a clear volumetric relation with the adjoining houses, although with simultaneously  formal autonomy and relation with the site.

Originally, the house on this plot established a relation with a twin house situated on the plot to the north (on its right side when looking towards the façade), which disappeared when it was subjected to a similar intervention. One intends to re-establish a relation, though of completely different nature – by contrast and continuity.  By contrast in volume, should be much lower in direct reference to the two floors row house on the south side; by continuity through the ground-floor and materials that characterize it.
At the street level  this continuity  will be clear, at the lower level with the north side house, and also as a construction volume  in harmony with the south house, providing an excellent framework to the set.

To ensure its the formal autonomy we've decided to design a patio-house, allowing bigger resting areas on the ground-floor and intimate relations between them.
The east and west elevations are, at the upper level, totally blind and defined by textured glazed tile panels, characteristic of the city of Porto. As also in the patio, this tiles have two colors, so when looking from one side you get a white wall, and from the other, a blue one.

On the upper floor, the private areas of the house, three suites and an office.
