Italian architect Andrea Mercati renovated a house in the countryside between Umbertide and Gubbio in Umbria, Italy, through a minimalist approach.
The result is a refined space of timeless elegance, unified through the use of a restricted materials palette and careful detailing.
Description from the architect Andrea Mercati:
"A house in the countryside between Umbertide and Gubbio in Umbria, Italy.
The building itself existed only partially, having been started around the 1980s and then left unfinished. The project, begun in 2007 and completed in 2012, brings contemporary, minimalist architecture in direct contrast with the external reality. The space is structured so as to generate a sense of continuity through the materials and colors that reflect the traditions therein, while at the same time, reinterpreting them in a contemporary vein, stripped of ornamentation in order to create a sober, elegant, and refined environment. The pool invites the viewer’s gaze out onto the surrounding landscape, in an atmosphere of serenity. Each and every feature has been studied in the most minimal detail."
